You can’t fulfill your destiny and live a successful life unless you take control of your life and start living intentionally. Here are 11 ways to start taking control of your life.
Make the decision to be the boss of your life
Every form of change starts with you. You have to find “your cause” that is, the reason why you need to take control and be the boss of your life. If you don’t find “your cause” you could lose focus along the way, especially when you face obstacles along the way.
Whatever or whoever that is currently in charge of your life right now won’t be happy to let you start making decisions that pertain to your life. They will resist the change and because you have been a pawn in their hands for a very long time, they have the upper hand. But knowing why you have to assert your independence will help you succeed.
Take Good Care of Yourself
It’s much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.
Don’t ever leave your personal grooming which comprises all aspects of your life as unimportant.
Groom yourself spiritually by praying without ceasing, study God’s word daily.
Have a daily exercise routine, bathe properly and take care of your physical look, eat healthily, drink enough water, relax and do every other thing that boosts your self-confidence.
Learn how to manage your time and resources
Time is an essential element of our lives and if we fail to manage it properly, we could miss out on a lot of opportunities.
Learn to plan your day properly, by prioritizing the most important and unpalatable tasks to be at the top of your to-do list.

Learn what triggers you to be depressed and work on the trigger.
Be grateful for life and the little things that you often take for granted.
If you have ever been ill for a long time, you will realize that nothing else matters in this life but to get better. Form a habit of always reminding yourself of the things you are grateful for.
Stresses and challenges don’t seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in your life.
Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things of life. It will make all the difference and uplift your mood.
Avoid unhealthy comparison of yourself to others.
This tends to breed jealousy and envy and will keep you unhappy.
Don’t expect everyone to like you
No matter how you try to be nice, there are people that will never like you. So stop trying too hard to please everybody.
Understand that it is okay for people to talk about you behind your back, don’t fret about that. As long as you are doing right by God and for yourself then keep being you, people that actually care about your well being will adjust.
Learn not to make assumptions about what others a thinking about you, if it matters some much to you, look for the proofs instead of making assumptions
A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not the reality.
If you have a fear that a friend or family member’s bad mood is due to something you did; or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don’t waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.
Think positively, talk positively and have a positive outlook on life.
Refrain from Using Absolutes. Have you ever told a partner “You’re ALWAYS late!” or complained to a friend “You NEVER call me!”? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like ‘always’ and ‘never’ makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are not reliable.
Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It’s never productive, because it’s not rational or solution-oriented, it’s just excessive worry.
If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Try changing your physical environment – go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.
Keep off from Negative Thoughts and negative people
Other people’s thoughts can’t have any power over you if you don’t pay attention to them.
If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach yourself from it; and re-channel your thoughts to think positively.
“Squash the “ANTs”
In his book “Change Your Brain, Change Your Life,” Dr. Daniel Amen talks about “ANTs” – Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like “Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me,” or “The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!”
When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!
Stop blaming and judging others.
Learn to take responsibility for your actions.
Practice Loving, understanding and encouraging others, instead of putting them down and always judging their actions and inactions.
You don’t have to be an expert to know that a simple word of encouragement or an understanding nod lifts up.
Judging others won’t make you feel better about yourself. Rather you will be sowing a seed that will make others to judge you too.
Instead of always judging people it would be better to use your time to help other people. Everyone feels good after helping.
You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.
Increase Your Social Activity
By increasing your social activity with people of like mind, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!
Even if you can’t find any in your immediate surroundings, there are a lot of positive people spreading positive vibes through their social media pages. Find them, follow them, and interact with them.
