Your attitude towards life determines how your life is going to turn out. A positive attitude will ultimately lead to a happier, healthier and wealthier life. While a negative attitude will ultimately lead to an unhappy, unhealthy and unfulfilled life.

The attitude you carry reflects on your appearance and can also affect people around you. The type of attitude you carry depends on you. It can be either positive or negative.

The need for having a positive mindset to life cannot be overemphasized. Before I go further I will have to ask you to perform a simple exercise right now.

First of all, I want you to take time to listen to your thoughts. Now get a piece of paper and write down what thoughts fill your head – what are the predominant thoughts on your mind? Would you label them as positive, or negative?

Now let’s say you are walking down the street with these thoughts. Do you think anyone who would meet you would be able to tell you what’s on your mind without interacting with you?

The answer to number one is up to you. But, the answer number two can be pretty generic and also depends on your state of mind.

Although people will not be able to tell you exactly what you think, they will more or less have an idea of how you are feeling.

Positive Attitude VS Negative Attitude

Positive thoughts have a filling effect, they are admittedly invigorating.

In addition to this, the people around the person carrying positive thoughts are usually energized by this type of attitude, negative thoughts, on the other hand, have a sapping effect on other people.

Aside from making you look gloomy and sad, negative thoughts can turn a festive gathering into a funeral wake.

A positive attitude attracts people, while a negative attitude repels them. People tend to shy away from those who carry a negative attitude.

 

Tips on how to have a positive attitude towards life

Have the desire to change and believe you can:

This is obviously the first step towards cultivating a healthy positive attitude towards life.

You need to have the desire to want to change from being a negative person to being a positive person.

The truth is that no one can advise you better than you will advise yourself.  The first step is to desire to be a positive minded person and believe you can do it, then go ahead to make the necessary lifestyle changes that will enable you to achieve your goal of being a positive person.

Work on your perception of the world:

Attitude can also be defined as your way of looking at the world. If you choose to focus on the negative things in the world, more or less you have a negative attitude brewing up.

However, if you choose to focus on the positive things, you are more likely carry a positive attitude.

 

Develop a healthy self-image:

A positive attitude begins with a healthy self-image. If you love yourself, the way you are and are satisfied, confident, and self-assured, you will also make others around you feel the same way.

People with low self-esteem often find themselves being cynical about themselves, others and life generally.

It is thus important to build your self-confidence and love yourself.

When you start appreciating yourself and seeing yourself in a positive light then it would be easier to see others and the world in a positive light.

When you fail to build your self-confidence you will ultimately have a negative attitude, which has a twofold drawback.

You feel bad about yourself, and you make others feel the same way.

Work on your thoughts:

Thoughts are very powerful. They affect your general attitude. If you want to have a positive attitude, it is imperative to work on your thoughts.

You have to consciously think only healthy thoughts. This is obviously very hard to do nowadays since, all around us, the media feeds us nothing but negative news and events.

A study shows that for every 14 things a parent says to his or her child, only one is positive. This is truly a saddening thought.

If you want to have a healthier outlook to life, you need to think happy thoughts, and you have to hear positive things as well.

So, what can you do? Well, for starters, you could go see a funny movie once in a while; you could play with children; spend some time telling jokes with friends; go to comedy shows.

All these activities fill you with positive stimuli, which in turn promotes a positive attitude.

Although it is impossible to keep ourselves from the negative things around us, you can still carry a positive attitude by focusing on the good things, the positive things in life.

When life presents you with situations that compel you to think negative thoughts, consciously replace those thoughts with funny thoughts or better still channel your energy towards thinking of the solution to solve the problem rather than dwelling on the problem or over-analyzing it.

Always realize that dwelling on your problem for far too long is not healthy and it also predisposes you to think negative thoughts.

Don’t expect life to be a smooth ride:

It may be hard to accept but that is the fact. Life is not a bed of roses, even roses have thorns.

Sometimes life may not go as we planned. We may not always get what we deserve at the time we want it.

We may face disappointments and failures at every turn in just a short while and it may look like the end of the world.

The truth is that the first response we often give when life happens to us and gives us lemons is to become negative, depressed and have the filling of hopelessness.

But if you have the right attitude to life you will understand that it’s not the end of the world, that it is just a phase and it will surely pass, just as your other challenges passed.

Staying positive through it all instead of complaining could open your eyes to opportunities that you never knew existed prior to that problem.

Always understand that life happen all the time to everyone and when it gives you lemons, make lemonade out of it – you can only do this if you have a positive attitude to life.

Eat and Rest when your body needs it

A hungry person is an angry person. When a person is both hungry and tired, the person is obviously vulnerable and could easily get upset, think and talk negatively. So to avoid being in this situation always eat and rest properly before you think about your problem. That way you will have a clearer perspective and be more in control of your thoughts and emotions.

As always, if you are beset by troubles, even in your darkest hour, focus on the good things in life, you will always have hope. Problems become something you can overcome.

Pray and Study your Bible:

When you pray, you are communicating with God and when you study the bible you are putting your ears on the chest of God to hear him speak to your situation.

Often times we miss the mark and dwell on the negative because we have refused to hear God speak to our heart concerning our challenges and our concerns.

He asked us to cast all our cares upon him that he cares for us. If we are working in accordance with the will of God, then we will always have cause to dwell on the positive trusting that He cares for us and that whatever happens to us is His grand design to make us better.

 

Get someone to keep you accountable:

Talk to someone about your decision – someone that has a positive attitude towards life and would love you to be better.

Ask the person to hold you accountable when you slip and to reward you when you have stayed on track for a particular milestone that you have both agreed on.

This will keep you on your toes and help you to keep sanitizing your thoughts and speech until you perfect the positive attitude.

Studies show that such an attitude actually retards ageing, makes you healthier and helps you develop a better stress coping mechanism.

Everyone does get negative at some point in his or her life. Whether it is at work or home negative situations happen almost all the time.

It is rather unfortunate that we cannot avoid them and thus beg the question of how can we change these negative thoughts to positive ones.

It is important to be positive in adverse situations, even though it might sound hard or rather impossible, it is very much possible to stay positive no matter the situation.

Learning the power of positive thinking assists us to remain in a positive state of mind even in the midst of a tragedy.

Additionally, knowing how to convert that negative energy into positive energy can lead to a healthy and comfortable lifestyle.

I have come up with five ways of how you can avoid being negative and when you put this five key points in mind you will be cheerful and even see some light of positivity in any situation that you may encounter.

Stay around positive people.

Hanging out with positive people will certainly help you stay positive.

Learn to stay away from negative and ungrateful people because they will only rub off their negativity off on you.

They will bring you down from trying to achieve your goal of living a positive focused lifestyle on being a cynical person once more.

Always remind yourself that you have a lot to be grateful for.

In negative situations, we tend to find ourselves thinking of the good things in our lives and how bad our current situation has left us.

Develop a habit of voicing out to yourself about the good things that happen to you rather than focusing on the bad ones.

One thing I practice whenever I am faced with negative situations is to write down all the good things that have happened to me even in the bad situation that I am facing.

I also go further to write out all the lessons and good things that could come from the situation. Acknowledging what you are grateful and thankful for, will help you nurture a grateful heart and mind, even in the worst situations.

When you have a positive attitude towards life, you can face challenges as they come without being weighed down by them.

A positive attitude will also help you have a clearer mind to think of a solution out of your problem

Own up to your mistakes.

If you mess up, take responsibility. If you do something good, reward yourself.

Accepting your wrong without blaming others for it is the easiest way to get out of a mess and be on the right track.

Do not blame other people for things that are your fault. This only brings a negative energy towards you by thinking all the negative things about that situation. Instead, accept the situation as it is and move on with life.

Stay away from anything that will aggravate your peace of mind or bring drama in your life.

We live in a world filled with bad news and disasters. Once you switch on the television, radio, you keep getting depressing news leaves you thinking negative thoughts.

The social media is not left out of this. While I was cultivating this new lifestyle, I made a decision to always stay away from social media once I had a bad day, or whenever I am facing a challenging situation.

This is so I can curb the externals that could compound my bad mood. And this has kept me from being negative.

Drama is an unfortunate and nasty characteristic to have. Part of avoiding drama is preventing dramatic people from influencing your life.

Avoid gossip at all cost. It will do you no good and only helps to spread negativity.

Be kind to people:

Show a little kindness daily, by doing so you will not have time for negative thoughts.

Do various acts of kindness every day – give alms to the needy, share your meal with a colleague, use kind words when addressing your domestic servants, put a smile on a child’s face.

This will keep you in a happy spirit. Besides, taking the focus away from your problems and trying to find a way to proffer solution to some else’s bigger problem is a good way to give, and givers never lack.

And this positive attitude you now carry can be of benefit to other people. Sometimes when other people feel down, the thing people mostly do is try to give them advice. But sometimes, all they need is somebody to sit by and listen to them.

If you have a positive attitude you may be able to cheer them up without even having to say anything.

In conclusion, it is important to transform yourself into a positive thinker since you will end up living a happy and healthy life. So be positive, and life will be positive for you.
